We were delighted to welcome visitors from Deafblind Japan on 16th September as part of their UK trip. Our interim chief executive, Liz, showed our guests around our specially designed headquarters, the National Centre for Deafblindness. On their tour Liz showcased the building’s features which have been specifically designed to make it accessible for deafblind people. Here’s what our visitors had to say about their time spent at Deafblind UK head office:
“We are very impressed by the institution and facilities of Deafblind UK. We could understand your notable work deeply through the meeting with you. We are surprised that the services you offer can often be used to positively impact the lives of deafblind people and their daily activities.”
“Although an interpreter dispatching service is provided nationwide in Japan, the time available is not enough and the support system is insufficient. Drawing on the knowledge we gained about your work, we must take efforts to establish a thorough support system prepared for all the life stages of deafblind people. We sincerely hope we will keep in touch and exchange information.”
Our Japanese friends also spent a lot of time with Tim, our digital inclusion officer who shared with them our unique digital inclusion service and the accessible technology he uses with our members. Tim told us:
“It was great to be able to discuss accessible technology and share ideas with our Japanese counterparts. They were really interested in our service offering and I’m sure this is the start of a great relationship.”
The visit was a huge success and we look forward to working with Deafblind Japan in the future.
