Meet our London Marathon runners – Katie

On 22nd April, five runners will take on the ultimate challenge to raise money for Deafblind UK…the Virgin London Marathon.

We spoke to Freelance Journalist Katie from York about her motivations and fundraising plans…

Have you run a marathon before and if so, how many?
“One, I ran the York Marathon in October 2017. I did say ‘never again’ after that!”

What made you want to run the London Marathon?
“It’s a great chance to raise some money for a worthy cause, plus it is a huge honour to take part in such a massive event.”

What made you want to run for Deafblind UK?
“I’ve worked with Deafblind UK for a year now and they’re lovely people – I can see first-hand how incredible their work is.”

What do you enjoy doing away from work?
“Working out (weights, boxing, swimming), writing and drinking! (Well, mostly eating!)”

What motivates you to train?
“Beating my last time, good music, having bragging rights and an excuse to miss the gym!”

How is training going to date?
“Two long runs in the bag – one 6 miles and one 8 miles. I’m doing one long and one short run per week.”

How are you planning to raise the money?
“Mostly by humiliating myself in public! I did a raffle before Christmas too.”

“I’ve reached the target so now I want to see how far we can push it!”
