New projects benefit deafblind people across England and Wales

Two new DBUK projects, ‘The World at their Fingertips and ‘At a touch’ have been kindly funded by the Awards for All Big Lottery fund to benefit a wide range of deafblind people across England and Wales.

The projects offer a new arm to our existing ‘Connecting Lives’ programme enabling us to reach a higher number of Deafblind UK members who are eager to use technology to reconnect with precious aspects of their lives.

The projects focus on Deafblind Digital Support Ambassadors (DDSA’s); a new stream of specialist digital volunteers. These are deafblind people who have already benefitted from our digital services and are trained to support other deafblind to explore digital connectivity for themselves. Much needed equipment has also being funded by the Awards for All grant, including tablet based mobile technologies such as iPads and Android Synapptic devices. They offer a great opportunity for our members to practise with the devices before deciding whether or not to make purchases for themselves.

We are extremely grateful to the Big Lottery Fund for allowing us to continue to develop our digital programme in this way are we look forward to continuing to promote the project through our varied platforms including one to one outreach support and specialist digital group deliveries.
