How to write and amend your Will

Writing or amending your will, to include a gift to a charity, is simple.

  1. Make a list of who you want to benefit from your estate. This might be your family, friends or charities.
  2. Work out what your assets are. These might include your house, savings, pension, businesses, investments and valuable items such as jewellery and heirlooms.
  3. Decide how you would like to divide your estate and what you would like to give to who
  4. Get your will drawn up by a solicitor or Will Writer

It is a good idea to review your will, and make any necessary amends, if you get married, divorced, have children or if someone you have named in your will dies.

If you want to change your will, for example to include a charity gift, you can add a document called a codicil. This is a separate document that outlines any changes and should be signed and witnessed in the same way as a Will.
