Christmas Activities – The Royal Pavilion Ice Rink

Ice skating at Christmas is great fun for all the family and this year we’d like to share our favourite pop up ice rink.

Found in the centre of Brighton, this ice rink is set in front of the famous Royal Pavilion and is one of the few Christmas ice rink to offer regular dedicated accessible sessions throughout the season.

The Royal Pavilion Ice Rink opens on Saturday 3rd November 2018 and runs until Sunday 13th January 2019 with sessions starting at 10am with the last session at 9:15pm all day every day (excluding Christmas Day). Every morning from 10am (except 24/12/18 and 1/1/18) is the accessible session. The Royal Pavilion Ice Rink encourages families to skate together whatever their abilities. This session is generally quieter than regular sessions particularly towards the beginning and end of the season and can offer skaters with additional needs a calmer environment to enjoy this Christmas activity.

The entire building is wheelchair accessible including the ice! Wheelchair users must be accompanied on the ice by a competent skater who can skate for free. Electric wheelchairs are permitted but must be switched to manual setting whilst on the ice. Wheelchair users are encouraged to book onto the dedicated accessible sessions from 10am. Marshals will be on the ice at all times and ready to offer tips or extra help where necessary.

For younger skaters or those not quite ready to step out onto the larger rink, there is a small beginners rink that is separate to the main skating area. On this smaller rink there are penguins for children 1.2m and under which are available on a first come first served basis, and they recommend coming early if they would like to use one. There are also skate aids designed for adults with additional needs that can be booked at the box office or by contacting them via their website.

Tickets cost from £10 for full price tickets (aged 12 and over), £7 for juniors (under 12) and the one-hour skate times run from 10am to 9.15pm daily. Club Rinkidinks (daily, second session of the day, 11.15am to 12.15pm excluding Dec 15th 2018 – Jan 2nd 2019) offers children under five the chance to skate for free when accompanied on the ice by an adult paying full price. There are also great multiticket offers for those who want to skate regularly (check website for details) and concessions for students. The box office is open from 9.30am to 9.45am, but it is advisable to book tickets in advance.

If you would like to discuss any additional requirements you can contact them via the website, via email (on the website) or via phone – currently via 0844 858 6753 (Calls to 0844 numbers cost 7p per minute plus your phone company’s access charge) but once they’re open from the 3rd Nov, on 01273 291672.
