Employability

Securing a job can be a difficult task. Our unique Employability programme will guide you through everything you need to know when considering the world of work. We will work with you to develop your knowledge and skills so that you can confidently move towards finding and applying for your dream job! Deafblind UK’s Employability programme will help you to:

  • Develop the motivation and confidence to find employment
  • Explore and map your skills, experience and goals
  • Work with external mentors, potential employers and specialist Access to Work advisors
  • Meet people living with deafblindness who are in employment

About the Deafblind UK Employability programme

Through a mix of one to one and group sessions, we will explore:

  • Choosing a career or volunteer opportunity
  • Education, training and re-training
  • Self-employment
  • Searching for vacancies
  • Writing a CV
  • Disclosing your disability
  • Interview skills
  • Access to Work
  • Online Job club
  • Accessibility Support for Employers

Our Employability programme is designed a specialist team to help you feel confident about making the next move in your career, whatever stage of the journey you’re on. With our support, you will create a personal action plan and develop a clear understanding of what to do next.


Ongoing support

When you have found an employed or voluntary job, we won’t just leave you to it! We will support you while you find your feet and who knows… you might even become an employability mentor yourself one day!


Accessibility

Our Access Employment course is a supportive and enabling learning environment with access to NRCPD language service professionals and accessible documentation throughout.


Cost and eligibility

This programme is free and is available to people aged 18 – 60, living in the UK who are not currently in full time employment.

Open Hand is our free, quarterly magazine containing articles and information that are tailored specifically to people with dual sensory loss.

There are very few publications designed for this specific market and so Open Hand gives its readers valuable information that they may not otherwise have known and reminds readers about Deafblind UK’s support services.
