Wellbeing volunteer

Our Wellbeing Volunteers make calls to our members to check on their wellbeing. They offering support, advice, guidance and information over the telephone where needed.

What’s involved?

  • Provide members will quarterly wellbeing contacts
  • Identify needs and further support
  • Provide emotional support to members
  • Contact members on their birthday
  • Make additional support calls to deafblind members as required
  • Support with data collection
  • Complete online contact record following each contact

How much commitment do I need to give?

This role ideally requires a commitment of 2 hours a week at a set time and is based from home.


Am I suitable?

This role would suit someone who:

  • Is confident and has good communication skills but also someone who may be wanting to build their confidence levels
  • Has good listening skills
  • Has a warm, friendly and engaging telephone manner
  • Can empathise with the pressures on deafblind people, their families and understand their need for support
  • Has good IT skills
  • Is self-motivated with an ability to work on your own initiative, within the environment of a supportive team
  • Able to enjoy interacting with our members from simple information calls to calls where Deafblind UK has changed their life, but also able to efficiently deal with emotional calls
  • Is aged 18 or over
  • Is based in the UK
  • Has access to the internet and a device to complete Deafblind UK online volunteer training. This will take approximately 2-3 hours.
  • Can commit to the role for at least three months

You will need to have access to a PC, tablet or mobile device and the internet. This is so that you can access our phone system and submit online contact logs.

What support will I get?

We ensure all volunteers who join our team are well equipped to undertake any tasks and will provide training and supervision throughout your journey with us. Any specific training will be outlined within your onboarding and induction stages and then discussed at your reviews with your named lead contact. All volunteers also have access to the Deafblind UK Volunteer Hub and a dedicated Deafblind UK contact.

This role is purely voluntary, and this arrangement is not meant to be a legally binding one or an employment contract.
