UK North Blind Sailing Association
Tranmere Sailing Club, 4 Bedford Rd E, Birkenhead CH42 1LSFirst Wednesday of Every Month, 8pmFounded in 2009, the UK North Blind Sailing Association is a community association which aims to promote the participation in sailing of blind and partially sighted people in the North of England and North Wales. We aim to fund and organize sail training opportunities, provide safety equipment and waterproof clothing for our participants and to support the social inclusion of visually impaired people in our group events centred on and around sailing activities. UKNBSA is unique in pioneering the participation of blind sailors in mainstream (sighted) competition both at local club level and national Regatta level.
A major and totally fundamental part of our activities is that we seek to reduce the sense of isolation and improve the emotional and physical well-being of members of the blind community.
This helps address the significant and disproportionate degrees of social exclusion and health issues within the blind community. We use the term “blind community” to include all people who are visually impaired.
We own and sail an open keel boat called ‘Mermerus’ which is a “Mersey Mylne” with a deep, enclosed cockpit which is ideal for our blind members.
We pursue other varied sailing opportunities eg. partaking in local sailing Regattas on eg the River Mersey and Menai Straits, sailing out of Liverpool Marina, Plas Menai and on Lake Windermere along with encouraging our members to join in other national sailing opportunities eg with the Jubilee Trust to experience tall ship sailing.
As well as having a full, seasonal sailing programme, we also have a full, all year round social programme for everybody to join in.
Please email us on [email protected] to arrange an initial chat before coming to any sessions or message us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UKNBSA/?locale=en_GB

ManKind
Ponds Forge Leisure Centre Café, Sheaf Street, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 2BPEvery other Friday, 1pm - 3pmWe run an informal group for Men – ManKind. The guys alternate in person meetings with online so that as many men as possible can take part.
The group is volunteer-led and aims to encourage men to meet, talk, share experiences, support each other and make friends. It’s an informal and friendly group and all are welcome.
There’s no obligation to attend every week – any time you feel like it, you’re welcome to come and join the guys for a brew and a chat. If you’re seeking advice or information, ManKind can signpost you to appropriate support and share resources. Our volunteer facilitator, Tim, can also tell you about the other services provided by Sheffield Mind that may also be appropriate.
