What a year it’s been! We’re extremely proud and very grateful to the Mayor of Peterborough for choosing Deafblind UK as one of his charities of the year and for raising over £6,000 to support people who are deafblind. We’d like to give huge thanks to Counsellor Nick Sandford and his team for all their efforts in raising much needed funds and awareness for us.
It’s been a very exciting year and, working with four other charities, the committee has organised a series of events for supporters to take part in. From bike rides and walks to chocolate bingo and a sausage supper – and of course the prestigious Mayor’s Ball – there really was something for everyone in the local area to take part in.
The Mayor of Peterborough chose Deafblind UK as one of the charities of the year from May 2023 to May 2024, along with four other local charities: Sue Ryder, PECT, MAGPAS and East Anglian Air Ambulance.
Cllr Nick Sandford, Mayor of Peterborough 2023-2024, said: “Deafblind UK does such great work to support deafblind people both in Peterborough and across the country.”
Robert Grew, Fundraising Development Manager at Deafblind UK said: “We’re delighted to have been chosen as one of the Mayor’s charities. The number of people affected by deafblindness is rising every year so it’s wonderful that the Mayor of Peterborough has recognised this and chosen to support us. The funds will make a huge difference to people impacted by dual sensory loss both locally and across the UK.”
