Multi-sport athlete and disability advocate Sam Gough has been named an Ambassador for Deafblind UK. Sam, best known for captaining the England Women’s blind football team, competing as a para rower, and raising awareness of disability inclusion, lives with both sight and hearing loss. She regularly shares her journey on Instagram, inspiring others with her story.

Elite athlete Sam Gough joins Deafblind UK as Ambassador Deafblind UKAs an Ambassador for Deafblind UK, Sam is eager to raise awareness of sight and hearing loss while empowering those affected by deafblindness. A passionate advocate for equality and inclusivity—particularly in sports—she hopes to show the world that, with the right support and determination, anything is possible.

Sam’s journey hasn’t been without challenges. As a child, she was excluded from sports simply because her teachers didn’t know how to support her needs. She was bullied for wearing hearing aids and struggled to get the right support for her dual sensory loss at school.

It wasn’t until she attended the Royal Blind School that she truly found her voice. There, she received the support she needed to pursue her passion for sports—and she hasn’t looked back since. Today, Sam represents England in blind football and has won numerous medals in rowing, Goalball and swimming.

Sam said: “I’m really grateful to be given the opportunity to become an Ambassador for Deafblind UK and to break down the barriers for people with sight loss and hearing loss.”

Nikki Morris, CEO of Deafblind UK, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Sam as an Ambassador. Her open, down-to-earth nature, combined with her incredible achievements, makes her a true inspiration. We hope that, together, we can create a more inclusive future where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.”
