Bill Harper is running the London Marathon for Deafblind UK
Bill Harper from Walthamstow, London is running the London Marathon 2023 for Deafblind UK!
Bill is a retired IT consultant who has always enjoyed keeping fit. As he approaches an important birthday milestone, he’s decided to use his passion for running for a good cause. “I’ve been lucky with my health, so I’d like to give a bit back by raising some money to support people who haven’t been so fortunate,” he said.
“I know people who have low vision, and people who have hearing loss. I don’t know anyone who is deafblind, but I can’t even imagine how tough it is,” Bill continued. “I spent a long time researching charities and came across Deafblind UK, who do great work supporting people with deafblindness. I’m really pleased to have this opportunity to raise awareness for deafblindness and take part in such an iconic event.”
This isn’t the first time Bill has run the London Marathon: he also ran in 1998 and 1999. This time around, he’ll be training from the sunny beaches of Portugal – where he spends much of his time. “I really enjoy starting my day with a jog along the beach,” he said.
We’re so happy to have Bill on the team, and hope that crossing the finish line will add a bit of extra sparkle to his birthday celebrations!
