Deafblind UK will host the UK’s first virtual Deafblind Convention on 7th October. The event will comprise several well know international and UK based speakers who will all focus on the theme of ‘Living better with sight and hearing loss’.

Steve Conway, CEO of Deafblind UK said: “It has always been our goal to share knowledge, experience and academic learning around deafblindness, and this event aims to do just that. We are really excited to provide an opportunity to come together, albeit virtually, and talk about a condition which is so often under-recognized.”

The Deafblind Convention will bring together people who are living with sight and hearing loss, with those who have a professional or academic interest in the field. Speakers will talk about the latest medical research and academic thinking and will also include inspirational and motivational talks from people who are deafblind.

The agenda is packed with a variety of subjects including assistive technology, stem cell research, the role of the ECLO, the importance of interpreter registration, mindfulness and inclusivity as well as entertaining accounts of deafblind adventures.

Speakers include:

  • Avril Watson MSc, Stem Cell Research Group at Newcastle University
  • Walter Wittich, Associate Professor at the School of Optometry, University of Montreal
  • Harriet Dunn, Paediatric Eye Clinic Liaison Officer, RNIB/ Alder Hey Hospital
