The Great North Swim brings thousands together for a unique weekend of open water action, community, and Lake District beauty. Whether you’re tackling your first open water swim or going all-out for a 2-mile swim, there’s a place for you in the water. Expect a fully supported course, a festival atmosphere, incredible views and a shared sense of achievement.

You’ll be swimming at the iconic Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, it’s magnificently beautiful and steeped in English history.

Two-mile swim

Take the plunge with a 2-mile swim within the beautiful Lake Windermere. The two-mile swim will see you complete aproximatley 125 lengths of a 25m pool, and is perfect for experienced swimmers looking to push themselves and build on their distance. It takes most swimmers around 1 hour 15 minutes to complete.

One-mile swim 

Dip your toe into open-water swimming by taking on the 1-mile swim around Lake Windermere. The mile is a classic distance in the world of open-water swimming. The one-mile swim covers the distance of approximately 64 lengths of a 25m pool.  The one-mile swim can take swimmers anything from 20 minutes to one hour to complete.

Join Team Deafblind UK

You can secure your place on the start line today for free with a commitment to raise at least £200 sponsorship for those living with deafblindness. Deafblind UK have a limited number of charity places in the Great North Swim in June 2026 and places are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. So, it is recommended to submit your application early to avoid disappointment.

There’s no registration fee or fundraising commitment (simply raise what you can), and you’ll receive the same great level of support from our dedicated team. Every £25 raised for your challenge could provide another hour of specialist wellbeing support for someone who is deafblind.
