Ian’s fundraising ‘snookerthon’ in memory of his mum who was deafblind
Remember how we always talk about getting creative with fundraising and doing it your own way?
Well, meet Ian Pettey, who decided to fundraise for people who are deafblind by embarking on a 24-hour snookerthon!
Ian, the former kit man of the ‘Shrimpers’ (nickname for Southend United FC), initiated the idea for his fundraising event in memory of his mother Mina, who reached the magnificent age of 101. And for many years, Mina welcomed the support and compassion of Deafblind UK befrienders. This was a cause close to Ian’s heart, and he smashed through his £2000 target! – And to that we say, fancy a celebratory drink and a game of snooker?
Over 12 friends joined Ian to play the opposition and keep him going for the entire 24 hours. The event was officially opened by ex ‘Shrimpman’ legend, and current assistant manager of Millwall FC Adam Barrett, making this an unforgettable day and showcasing the true spirit of what local community really means.
Having successfully completed the challenge Ian would like to say a huge thank you for all the donations, to the family and friends who were able to give up their time, and of course, the sponsors who without their help, the event may not have taken place. Ian sends his best wishes to the two charities he chose to fundraise for in continuing their much-needed support for those who need it.
