New accessible homes at Rainbow Court

RC

It was a very proud day, back in April, when the Mayor of Peterborough cut the ribbon and officially opened the two new bungalows at our supported living complex, Rainbow Court.

The new ground-floor homes are specifically designed to accommodate people who are deafblind with additional needs. Director of Operations, Simone Moore said: “Many people who have sensory loss also have additional conditions or disabilities that mean they need more specialist care and support. Rainbow Court gives people who are deafblind the opportunity to live independently, in a safe community with easy access to the support they need. So, we’re extremely proud that we can now extend this to people who need more complex care.

“We’re so pleased to see the development finished and to such a high standard. (At the time of writing), there are a number of people who are interested in moving in so we’re looking forward to seeing the new homes occupied soon and to welcoming some more people to the Rainbow Court community.”

Each of the new homes is specifically designed for people who are deafblind with additional needs. They are all on one level, with extra-wide doors and large wet rooms. There is also enough space to add hoists and other equipment if the tenants need it. And of course, everyone living at Rainbow Court can use our Care and Support services which give people access to our expert support workers.

The new homes were officially opened on Monday 8th April by The Mayor of Peterborough, Counsellor Nick Sandford and The Mayoress, Alderman Bella Saltmarsh who were joined by staff from Deafblind UK. Since 1963, Rainbow Court has been a safe and supportive environment for people who are deafblind to live and access the support they need. It remains unique in its provision of such specialist care and support. Whilst the accommodation and community areas have been upgraded over the years, this is the first major development work to be undertaken.
