Deafblind Awareness Week 2026

#SeeHearUs

22 - 28 June 2026

The Context

Deafblindness is a distinct condition involving the loss of sight and hearing to the point where your communication, mobility and ability to access information are impacted. Over 450,000 people across the UK are living with deafblindness, and this number is rising every day.

Deafblind people face obstacles when people focus too much on what they cannot do, and don't focus enough on what they can.

Each person living with deafblindness has their own strengths, just like anyone else. In fact, experiences of deafblindness can bring unique skills, abilities and capabilities which are often underrecognised.

This Deafblind Awareness Week, we're focusing on shifting perceptions and shining a light on the unique strengths and abilities of every deafblind person.

Black text in a white speech bubble on an orange background reads "“Look at the ability rather than disability. We all have skills and gifts and deafblind people - given the chance - can be great contributors to the economy and society” Janice, Deafblind UK member". White text saying #SeeHearUs and Deafblind Awareness Week 2026 is in the bottom right hand corner.
Black text in a white speech bubble on a blue background reads "“"I would describe my strengths as resilience, independence, adaptability, and determination. Deafblind people often find different ways to communicate, work, socialise, and enjoy life, and those skills deserve more recognition". Glen, Deafblind UK member". I'm living with deafblindness, how can I get involved?

We're inviting people living with deafblindness to create a piece of content sharing one of your strengths - this could be your job, a skill, hobby, personal quality or something else...

You can use whichever format is accessible for you. This could be

  • A short video of you saying ‘I am deafblind and…’ talking about a strength
  • A written quote, perhaps alongside an image that links to your message (perhaps showing a moment of achievement, or you practising your hobby or skill)
  • A voice recording
  • A drawing
  • Or any other format which works for you!

Don't forget to share it with us by email or social media and the the #SeeHearUs campaign hashtag! Click the icons below to find us on social media...
