Giving safely

As the season of giving fast approaches, it is important to be aware that unfortunately there are some people who are less than charitable and take advantage of people’s seasonal goodwill. If you choose to support a charity this Christmas, here are some tips for avoiding scams…

  • Research the charity before you give, they should be registered with the Charity Commission and have a registered charity number easily visible on their website and communications. Click here to visit the Charity Commission website where you can check that a charity is registered with them.
  • If you want to give directly to the charity, you can donate through the charity’s website for extra peace of mind
  • If you want to support an individual fundraiser then do this through official platforms like Enthuse, Just Giving or MyDonate rather than giving cash
  • Ignore and delete any unsolicited emails or post from charities that you have never heard of or have no association with

At Deafblind UK, you can rest assured that any support you give us is safe, secure and greatly appreciated. If you would like to support our work and would like extra reassurance that you are not being scammed, please remember the following:

  • We never to door-to-door collections
  • We don’t do street collections
  • We use Charities Aid Foundation) CAF to take donations via our website, to make sure your money is extra safe and secure
  • We will never pressure you to give – we are grateful for any donation whenever you chose to give it
  • We will only contact you in the way that you have given us consent to do so
  • We will write to you to confirm receipt of your gift, unless you would prefer us not to
