After spending her summer university vacations working in her local NHS ophthalmology department and volunteering for a visual impairment charity, Manbir went on to train full-time in hospital optometry. Manbir was subsequently appointed as a part-time senior optometrist in a low vision clinic. Following completion of her PhD, Manbir went on to work as a university researcher and lecturer. Manbir currently works as a Reader in Vision Science at the University of Portsmouth, serves on several national and international ophthalmology/optometry committees, and undertakes consultancy in the optical sector.
