Racing to support people with deafblindness

Market Rasen Racecourse and Deafblind UK are changing the course for people who are deafblind.

Together, we are giving people with sight and hearing loss the same exciting and memorable experiences as everyone else – and there are lots of ways you can help!

  • Make a donation using the form below

A two horse race

The excitement, anticipation and celebration of a race day is not to be missed. Together, with our partners at the Jockey Club, we make sports and entertainment accessible for people with sight and hearing loss. We have joined forces with Market Rasen Racecourse in Lincolnshire to ensure that deafblind visitors have the best possible experience. Our team will also be on hand at each event throughout 2022 to help visitors understand deafblindness and to let them know what support is available.

Deafblindness is the loss of sight and hearing to the point where your communication, mobility and ability to access information are impacted. It can be the result of old age, genetic conditions, accidents and illnesses, but affects everyone in differently and so we support each person differently. Look out for information and donation points around the racecourse and feel free to talk to our volunteers about deafblindness!

How your support helps

With your support, we are here every step of the way for people who are deafblind, to reassure, advise or just to be someone to turn to if there is no one else. We provide practical help, emotional support, help with technology, information, advice and even holidays to anyone who needs it. Click here to find out more about what we do.

Just £10 can buy someone a years’ subscription to Open Hand – the only magazine written specifically for people who are deafblind – to give them access to information and support in a format that they can access.

For £30, you can pay to run a remote social group, giving up to eight people a chance to meet others and socialise; a welcome break to their long silent days and for some, their only chance to meet other people.

£50 gift can give someone a counselling session with our trained therapists, to help them process their sight and hearing loss and to lift them from the darkness.

From everyone at Deafblind UK and Market Rasen Racecourse, thank you!
